Job description

Position Description: Tenure-track Assistant Professor of English. PhD in English or related field from a regionally accredited university and evidence of teaching excellence required. Experience or preparation in teaching one or more of the following areas in our Writing concentration required: rhetorical theory, composition studies, developmental writing, digital/new media writing, technical writing, professional writing, scientific writing, or professional editing. Standard course load is 4/4. All faculty teach General Education courses, including First-Year Writing. Other duties include advising of students, department and university service, and research (60% Teaching, 20% Service, 20% Scholarship).

Minimum Qualifications: Experience or preparation in teaching first-year writing as well as one or more of the following areas required: rhetorical theory, composition studies, developmental writing, digital/new media writing, technical writing, professional writing, scientific writing, or professional editing.

Preferred Qualifications: Promise of effective teaching, productive scholarship, and useful service. Responsibilities: To teach 12 hours per semester across a broad range of courses, including Theories of Rhetoric and Composition, and general education courses including First-Year Writing. In addition, candidates will be expected to perform departmental and university service and maintain an active scholarly agenda: 60% Teaching, 20% Service, and 20% Scholarship/Research.

The English Department at Fort Hays State University offers a Bachelor of Arts in English with three concentrations: Literature, Teaching, and Writing. Our innovative Master’s program allows students to enroll year-round or summers only, which enables working teachers to complete the degree in only two summers’ residency.
