Part-time RAD Data Analyst
The Research Application Delivery (RAD) team in the Office of Research Informatics (ORI) builds, implements and supports software and data solutions for Duke's research community. The RAD data analyst leads efforts to import, clean, transform, validate or model data related to RAD applications. RAD data analysts work collaboratively with the business units, software teams, report writers, and individual customers to envision, design, develop, test, document and support data solutions.
We are looking for a motivated self-starter with strong analytic and communication skills who can design and develop new data solutions related to Duke's Administrative Simplicity and Transparency initiative. This will involve developing import queries for several new vended research administration applications recently implemented. All solutions must be designed, developed, and documented in partnership with existing resources so that knowledge is transferred. The ideal candidate has extensive/advanced knowledge and experience with a variety of databases, languages, and development tools.
Work Performed
Analysis and Development (60%)
  • Work with project teams and users to identify business needs
  • Help translate business needs into functional requirements
  • Participate in design phase of new ORI applications to ensure that a sustainable data/reporting framework is delivered to the users
  • Liaise with cross-functional teams. Sit in on strategy sessions and be responsible for execution of prioritized initiatives
  • Perform data mining and data migration for various projects
  • Partner with business analysts and product managers to move projects forward
  • Work with departmental directors, unit managers, SOM leadership/administration, and appropriate research personnel to develop requested reports and advanced ad-hoc queries
  • Help develop data-related functional specifications for RAD applications
Testing (20%)
  • Plan and coordinate testing for new data solutions (e.g., reports, queries, scripts)
  • Develop manual testing plans
  • Develop automated tests when possible so that manual testing is minimized
  • Consult with users, support analysts and vendors to efficiently address issues discovered in the testing phase.
User Support & Documentation (20%)
  • Develop technical support documentation for all data solutions
  • Handle Service-Now requests for your solutions
  • Provide third-level end-user support for your solutions
  • Help create user support documentation for your solutions
  • Ensure that user issues are handled professionally and efficiently
  • Support the data warehouse team by creating and maintaining appropriate design and data mapping specifications
Required Qualifications at this Level01Education/Training:Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent combination of education and technical experience required.
Master's degree in a related field is preferred.

Skills:
Technical - demonstrated proficiency using following technologies:
  • SQL and PL/SQL
  • web architecture, application development, and security procedures
  • relational database concepts and products
  • Business Objects, Cognos
  • scripting/code writing skills using tools like Perl, PHP Powershell, MS Access
  • creation and modification of Oracle database objects and functions
  • data modelling, data profiling, normalization

  • ability to work independently to complete complex tasks
