Job Summary

The Division of Student Affairs welcomes applications for a Director of IT Strategy. The Director will report to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and partner with the Associate/Assistant Vice Chancellors and Student Affairs Cabinet to play a critical role in evaluating, developing, implementing, and directing the Student Affairs’ technology management strategy.

The Student Affairs Director of IT Strategy must have a solid understanding of information technology practices and system models along with an understanding of the evolving nature of technology to recommend innovative solutions and resource management practices for adoption by the division. This position will be a strategic partner in providing leadership and vision to the VCSA cabinet regarding strategy and the management of technology for the Division. This role is critical in ensuring that the division’s technology resources are managed in a way that enables Student Affairs to meet its long-term strategic goals in alignment with the overall campus information technology strategy.

In providing Student Affairs and campus-wide information technology leadership, the Student Affairs Information Technology Strategy Director will be responsible for assessing the effectiveness of the division’s technological planning, analysis and reporting standards and for ensuring the integrity and accuracy of divisional information technology. This position is responsible for developing a Student Affairs IT Department and determining the scope, responsibilities and level of support provided by this department to operate within the larger campus umbrella of campus IT shared services. In addition, determining the optimal organizational structure is expected by this role.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Provision of Leadership and Management

  • Oversee the division’s IT practices to ensure that information technology is available and allocated to enable Student Affairs to meet its long-term strategic goals in alignment with the overall campus IT strategy.
  • Create an organizational structure that maximizes the effectiveness of the division’s IT management and that fully utilizes the wealth of staff expertise and talent that exist within the division.
  • Determine methods and strategy for the division to more effectively and efficiently provide information technology to departments, staff, and students.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners on the development, delivery, and assessment of shared IT services and resources to align with the division of Student Affairs and the campus level IT goals.
  • Ensure delivery of high-quality, customer-focused services that are in alignment with best practices and standards in process, design, architecture, and operations.
  • Develop clear, measurable metrics and assess departmental performance and service value on a regular basis.
  • Engage in continuous improvement as necessary to improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the services the department provides.

Strategic IT Leadership

  • Provide leadership and vision for the development and execution of Student Affairs Information Technology strategy in support of divisional and campus strategic goals and priorities.
  • Establish short and long-range IT plans that leverage available resources most optimally in support of the SA division’s short-term and long-term strategic goals and priorities.
  • Analyze the needs of functional departments to establish priorities for feasibility studies, systems design and implementation to develop new and/or modify information systems.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of an innovative IT solution and methodology while taking into account the unique needs of department-specific stakeholders, timelines, and funding streams.

Enterprise Analysis (Business Transformation)

  • Identify business opportunities, build a Business Architecture, determine the optimum project investment path for the division and university, and oversee the implementation new business and technical solutions.
  • Ensure the integrity and accuracy of information and to alert division leadership to areas of gaps or concerns.
  • Assess information and implement safeguards to ensure that departments utilizing technology to the full potential.

Campus IT Partnership

  • Facilitate open and collaborative discussion of campus IT plans with the Office of Information Technology and divisional leadership.
  • Work with campus partners to identify and, where possible, eliminate systemic barriers that are impeding the division’s ability to maximize the use of various IT solutions
  • Serve as a member of various campus-wide technology committees that are charged with the stewardship of the campus’ research, teaching and learning, and public service missions of Student Affairs and the University.

The anticipated starting salary for this position is $135,000.

What We Require

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • 8 years of IT experience, 5 years of which are progressively significant IT management and leadership experience including 2 years of supervision of staff.
  • Experience working with large and complex organizations with multi-departments.
  • Proficiency with large and complex database structures, administration, and concepts.

What You Will Need

  • Proficiency in working with vendors, negotiation, and contractual agreements.
  • Experience leading large complex IT initiatives to successful completion
  • Strong collaboration skills, including the ability to gather input from a wide variety of diverse constituencies and to effectively discuss this input with colleagues in order to formulate strategic direction and develop creative solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability as a problem solver.
  • Demonstrated customer service orientation.
  • Ability to work with a wide range of people.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Knowledge of, or experience with utilizing Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) constructs for managing IT organizations.
  • Familiar with Agile methodology.
  • Experience with large scale deployments of technologies.
  • Experience working in a higher education environment.
