Job Description

The Admissions Counselor I (Admissions Processing), under general supervision, is responsible for entering, collecting, and evaluating admissions applications, documents, and data and reviewing each application and corresponding application file for admissibility to the University while adhering to all federal, state, A&M system, and institution policies. This position works in the Admissions Processing area under the Office of Admissions. This position is responsible for working independently on assigned responsibilities, as well as collaboratively and cohesively with the Admissions team. This position has very limited student interaction and the majority of the responsibilities are computer-based.

This position typically works Monday-Friday; 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. May work beyond normal office hours to include evenings, weekends, and peak times.

Travel may be required.

Responsibilities:

  • Verifies admissions application data from ApplyTexas in the Banner student information system and enters data and makes corrections, as needed
  • Assists in collecting, updating, and processing student record information
  • Processes applications, transcripts, test scores and other credentials for admission from prospective undergraduate students and determine admission status
  • Matches admission credentials to appropriate file and updates status in Admissions systems (Banner, department logs, etc.)
  • Evaluates undergraduate domestic transcripts, which may include: evaluating course equivalencies, academic status, repeated courses, etc.
  • Evaluates undergraduate foreign credential evaluations, which may include: evaluating course equivalencies, academic status, repeated courses, etc.
  • Enters transfer course data into Banner
  • Handles internal telephone calls and departmental email duty. Sends correspondence to applicants who email the departmental account or routes to appropriate department
  • Provides in-service information/material for Admissions counselors and other staff on occasion
  • Receives Admission audit reports and make corrections as needed
  • Evaluates application files for an admission decision in an effective, accurate, and timely manner
  • Maintains the integrity of the admissions process by adhering to all federal, state, system, and institution policies and procedures
  • Provides excellent customer service.

Education & Experience:
  • Associates degree. No prior experience required.


KSAs:
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with other.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills


Preferred KSAs:
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and accurately both verbally and in writing
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Available and willing to work extra and/or irregular hours or days during peak work periods to include weekends and nights
  • Prior college admissions work experience
  • College course work or degree
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand high school and college transcripts
  • Experience working with reports or excel worksheets
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated experience with student information systems software (Banner or equivalent product)
  • Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively within a team
