Position Summary: The primary purposes of this position are to 1) supervise and coordinate the day-to-day clinical/histology-laboratory operation of the Division of Nephropathology and the technical and clerical staff involved with clinical services, 2) provide hands-on help when needed including occasional work on holidays or weekends, 3) oversee all required quality assurance and quality improvement activities, and health safety requirements for the entire laboratory, including both the research and clinical components, and the faculty and staff and visiting scholars/fellows, 4) assure adherence to HIPAA and IRB regulations, 5) independently perform laboratory procedures on human or research animal tissue/specimens (cutting, staining, IF, IHC, PCR etc.) for diagnostic and study purposes, 6) interact and communicate effectively with UNC Hospitals McLendon Clinical Laboratories management staff for compliance with all accreditation requirements including but not limited to CAP certification, 7) provide guidance and hands-on help in the research laboratory (DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, blotting, Nanostring techniques etc.) including the maintenance of mouse colonies, and 8) approving/managing employee timecards in KRONOS.

Education Requirements:

Qualification and Experience: Bachelor's degree in medical technology, chemistry, or a biological science and three years of laboratory experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Some positions may require compliance with current Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations.
