Assistant Professor in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Kentucky (UK) in Lexington, Kentucky invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the field of Experimental Condensed Matter Physics to begin Fall 2019. The focus of the search is for candidates engaged in the studies of contemporary emergent phenomena in quantum materials, including but not limited to the physics of strongly correlated electrons, low dimensional systems, and topological materials. All candidates are required to have a Ph.D. in Physics or a related field. Candidates are expected to have an established research record and a vigorous and sustainable research plan that has the potential to attract external funding.

The Department's condensed matter group ( has a long history of experimental and theoretical research on novel electronic materials, and the Department houses the University's Center for Advanced Materials, with shared facilities for the preparation and characterization of thin film and bulk materials. Other shared facilities are located in UK's Center for Nanoscale Science and Engineering and Electron Microscopy Center. Several faculty also take advantage of our proximity to Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
