We are looking for a dynamic individual who demonstrates proficiency in internship and practicum coordination, teaching, service, and community engagement. As a team player, this individual will make meaningful contributions to the vision and growth of the department, its faculty, staff, and students. Responsibilities: This 12-month position would be responsible for:
(a) Internship and practicum (pre-internship field experience) planning and preparation, facilitating new partnerships with community agencies, student placements, and direct field supervision and evaluation. This individual would work year-round with internships and practicums which would include not only supervising students, but also interfacing with agency supervisors, coordinating professional paperwork (credentialing requirements), facilitating and overseeing onboarding procedures, securing affiliation agreements and interfacing with university and agency legal counsels, on-site visitations, and grading internship and practicum materials (e.g., preliminary reports, progress reports, evaluations).
(b) Developing and teaching internship 1-credit professional preparation course(s) to train students in conducting fieldwork searches, formulating resumes and personal statements, completing required departmental paperwork, and complying with onboarding requirements by agencies.
© Teaching in the therapeutic recreation concentration and likely additional teaching responsibilities in introductory courses in the professional core. Additional advising and mentoring duties of students in academic and career development as necessary.
The successful candidate must have a minimum of a master's degree in recreation, park, and leisure studies or related field by time of appointment. Certification by the National Council on Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC; CTRS) is required. Candidate must also have, or have applied for, North Carolina Board of Recreational Therapy Licensure (NCBRTL; LRT) by time of appointment.
Successful candidates will also have a demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate courses in the therapeutic recreation concentration and in the professional core (introductory), and ability to mentor and advise students. Practical experience in the field of recreation is desirable.
