Job description

Within a highly collaborative team environment, partner with other communications staff members and campus stakeholders to steward the College’s brand and express it in the most exciting and effective ways for internal audiences. The Content Strategist contributes to the creation of multi-platform content in support of Grinnell’s mission, goals, and strategic priorities, and will:

• Support and execute integrated communication strategies based on a shared understanding of the College, including mission, vision, and values as well as institutional identity and brand strategy; its audiences and stakeholders; and our communications channels.
• Work with team members to develop and execute creative, engaging content that meets project objectives for [campus stakeholders, donors, and alumni, image-building, and other operations of the College as assigned.
• Use available metrics and analytics to inform content creation and share insights and recommendations to improve and optimize content. 
• Continue to develop discipline expertise, remain up-to-date with industry best practices, and share skills and knowledge with fellow team members to advance cross-training and strategic integrated communications practices.

The Content Strategist – Editorial produces a wide range of crisp, compelling, engaging communications from concept to final copy, quickly, and with minimal supervision, including the Grinnell Magazine, Web copy, and other College editorial needs.


Minimum Qualifications

 Bachelor’s degree required with five years of demonstrated experience in communications, public relations, or a related field.


Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, problem-solving, and organizational skills are required. Ability to write in voices, styles, and genres appropriate to varied audiences from applicants to alumni.


Requires understanding and appreciation of the role of brand messaging in institutional communications. Creativity, goal-orientation, enthusiasm, and an ability to articulate the mission of a nationally ranked liberal arts institution are essential.


Preferred Qualifications

Professional experience with speechwriting and copywriting for higher education preferred. Familiarity with small, private liberal arts college environment is a plus.
