The Department of Neuroscience is seeking a Laboratory Specialist 1 to conduct research in a laboratory that is using mouse models to study the pathogenesis of Huntington's disease with the goal of identifying potential treatments for this disorder. A successful candidate should be self-motivated, pays attention to detail, has good organizational skills, and can work independently. A major responsibility of this position is to maintain a transgenic mouse colony and to genotype various strains of mice correctly using PCR. Other responsibilities include general laboratory management such as maintaining common stocks and equipment, ordering supplies, and preparation of shared reagents, as well as data entry and analyses using Excel, SigmaPlot, and Prism software. Prior experience in cell culture, cryostat sectioning, immunohistochemistry, and western blotting etc. is preferred.
A Bachelors' degree in Biology, Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related field and at least a year of prior laboratory experience (including research experience as an undergraduate student) is required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must be familiar with animal handling, solution preparation, and have basic lab and microscope skills. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, strong problem solving skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
