The Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine is seeking PhD/DrPH/ScD/MD epidemiologist or a physician with epidemiology training or focused on clinical research to fill this tenure track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The Department of Anesthesiology has a strong track record of research productivity and funding (Top Ten in NIH funding for Anesthesiology Departments) and seeks to invest in expansion of clinical research. We are particularly interested in candidates with a research track record in topic areas related to the Anesthesiology clinical enterprise.

The University of Colorado is the lead site for the Colorado Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (, which has been continuously funded since 2008 and has robust support for clinical research through funding, mentorship, and core programs. The Department of Anesthesiology is an active member of the Multicenter Perioperative Outcomes Group (MPOG) and has access to patient populations and world-class clinical and perioperative services at the Anschutz Medical Campus (University of Colorado Hospital, Denver VA Hospital, and Children's Hospital Colorado). Affiliates include 10 hospitals in the UCHealth system, which are integrated on the same electronic medical record platform and research data warehouse, and include approximately 72,000 surgeries, 120,000 admissions, and 3 million outpatient visits annually.


Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must have a PhD, DrPH, ScD or MD degree and appropriate and sufficient postdoctoral experience to establish an independent clinical epidemiology research program and be competitive for obtaining sustained extramural grant support. Exceptional candidates who need additional training though career development awards will also be considered. Competitive start-up funding provided by the Department of Anesthesiology. Limited clinical duties can be arranged for select MD applicants with extensive research background.

The Department of Anesthesiology seeks to hire a faculty member in the tenure track. Candidates must demonstrate expertise in advancing a specific research agenda addressing one or more aspects of anesthesia-related clinical topics. Expectations include a combination of conducting funded research, mentoring fellows, residents and clinical faculty and engaging in professional service.
