I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

GW's College of Professional Studies (CPS) designs programs with the requirements of adult learners and working professionals in mind. CPS offers undergraduate and graduate programs that address the competency requirements of adults working in emerging and rapidly changing professions. CPS programs draw from multiple academic disciplines and are delivered in flexible formats: face-to-face, online, or a blend of both. By combining university faculty experts with accomplished practitioners, CPS is a catalyst for academic innovation, constructing credentials for the workforce that uphold the university's rigorous standards of academic excellence and respond to the needs of today's professionals.

College of Professional Studies (CPS) is searching for a full-time Senior Academic Advisor, Online Coach to provide support for CPS online students primarily at the graduate level. This position will report to the Assistant Dean of Students and will reside in our Alexandria Graduate Education Center. This position does not have direct reports but may supervise or train temporary or student employees.

The primary focus for the time Senior Academic Advisor, Online Success Coach is supporting online students in achieving their academic goals. In addition, this position will assist in facilitating online students with connection to CPS and GW.

Key Responsibilities include:
Provide guidance to students to develop an educational plan and strategies to enhance student success in completing the online program

Engage with students on their progress and pace for completion of the program, including mentoring in skills needed to be successful in an online program

Communicate frequently to provide additional support to absent or unengaged students

Prepare and present online workshops on a variety of topics as needed, including new student orientations

Develop and maintain positive working relationships with faculty and staff

Collaborate with the Assistant Dean of Students on student retention activities and initiatives for online programs

Participate in activities designed to enhance the student experience, including graduation

Performance of other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

The successful candidate is a self-starter and is able to instruct and motivate students at the graduate level.

Manage multiple priorities and work under pressure to meet deadlines with strong organizational and time management skills;

Understand the variety of challenges facing online students in handling complex academic issues;

Develop positive mentoring relationships with a diverse student population;

Articulate clearly through strong written and verbal communication skills;

Possess a high level of proficiency in computer and web-based skills, including Microsoft Suite, and other programs/systems;

Enjoy working as part of a small, strong team as well as independently to achieve program goals and objectives; and

Possess the ability to interact effectively with a diverse population at all levels, facilitate decision making and conflict resolution, maintain a positive and constructive demeanor treating all staff, students, faculty and vendors with professionalism, courtesy and respect.

Typical Hiring Range $47,500- $53,800 How is pay for new employees determined at GW?
