I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

The Graduate School of Education and Human Development (GSEHD) Educational Leadership and Administration (ELA) program seeks a Senior Office Assistant to support the program director and work with faculty and staff to support the program and students. The primary focus for this position is providing customer service to visitors, staff, faculty, and students of the GSEHD programs at the Hampton Roads location. This position reports to the Associate Professor of Education Administration.

The key responsibilities include:
Greets faculty and students.
Answers the telephone and monitors organizational email account.
Schedules rooms for classes and special events (on and off-site).
Plans, coordinates, and sets up special events related to ELA programming or center events, such as doctoral dissertation defenses and social events.
Provides general administrative support to faculty and staff.
Sets up, tests and troubleshoots copier, computer, and A-V equipment.
Ensures computer updates are installed and maintenance is addressed on all equipment.
Monitors inventory and orders office supplies. Reconciles P-card expenses.
Opens and/or closes the GSEHD suite, securing the facility at the end of the class sessions. When the Center staff are not present, oversees operations and deals with any challenges that come up.
Cleans whiteboards, tables and straightens up classrooms.
Maintains the GSEHD office suite common areas, (ex: watering plants, disposing of food, cleaning out the refrigerators, general tidiness, etc.).
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning
duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 1.5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Experience working in a customer-focused environment.
Comfortable working with audio-visual devices and the basic Microsoft suite of programs.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills, self-motivated, a demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
Excellent communicator with strong interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills.
Enjoy working as part of a team as well as independently to achieve program goals and objectives.
Ability to interact effectively with a diverse population at all levels and facilitate decision making and conflict resolution. Maintain a positive and constructive demeanor with all staff, students, faculty and vendors with professionalism, courtesy and respect.
Experience working within a higher education environment.

Typical Hiring Range $16.43 - $21.39 How is pay for new employees determined at GW?
