College of Liberal Arts invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Composition in the Department of English beginning August 2019.
PhD in Composition/Rhetoric, Writing Studies, or a related field. ABD applicants will be considered, but appointment will be at the Instructor rank and all degree requirements must be completed by February 1, 2020. Specialize in composition pedagogy, teaching writing to secondary education teachers, digital rhetoric, ESOL, translanguaging, or WAC/WID. Record of teaching excellence in first-year writing and other writing courses. Evidence of an active scholarly agenda. Demonstrated success in working with diverse populations of students.
Evidence of participation in departmental or programmatic cultures of writing focused on classroom practices, curriculum development, and/or outcomes assessment. Experience teaching second language writers. Demonstration of scholarly achievement in composition or closely related field.
An instructional workload of six (6) course units per academic year for the first year and seven (7) course units in subsequent years. Teach first-year writing each semester and will teach the first-year Towson Seminar course, upper-level advanced writing courses, and composition courses in the M.S. in Professional Writing program as needed.
