Job Summary:

The Wisconsin Center for Education Research (WCER) is one of the oldest, largest, and most productive university-based education research centers in the world. WCER is committed to improving educational outcomes for the nation's diverse student population, positively impacting education practice, and fostering collaboration among disciplines and with practitioners. Established in 1964 within the UW-Madison School of Education, WCER is home to more than 400 faculty, staff, and graduate students. The center receives more than $50 million annually from federal and state agencies and private foundations.

The Human Resources Assistant provides administrative support to the WCER Business Office. As such, the incumbent will handle a wide variety of support tasks, with the need to acquire a broad base of knowledge about WCER, its projects and the University. The position's primary tasks will be to provide human resources support for the WCER HR team and act as first point of contact for student hires in WCER. This position works under the general supervision of the WCER Human Resources Manager.

The incumbent receives general guidance but is expected to independently develop and maintain activities and procedures to support the responsibilities of the position. The incumbent is required to take initiative and use independent judgment. This position is privy to a considerable amount of confidential and sensitive information that flows through the Business Office so it is critical that the incumbent always uses discretion in carrying out his/her duties.

This position requires strong, demonstrated organizational and communication skills, the ability to monitor and coordinate sensitive and confidential matters, the ability to meet hard deadlines, coordinate multiple tasks, and the ability to interact effectively with faculty, students, staff, and the general public.

Schedule Comment:

Monday through Friday, 7:45 - 4:30, with a 45-minute lunch break.
Schedule flexibility is permitted working around core hours.
