Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

2 or more years' experience in an administrative setting is required. Experience with complex scheduling and or coordinating activities required. Knowledge of University of Wisconsin-Madison College of Letters & Science departments, centers and programs is preferred.

The successful candidate will also be able to demonstrate:

- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to use tact, courtesy and discretion in dealing with a variety of individuals.
-Ability to exercise independent judgment, be highly organized, display individual initiative, work under deadline pressure, and use resources effectively in a complex work environment.
-Ability to work effectively and maintain a good working relationship with a wide range of individuals, including coworkers, faculty, staff, students, University administration, alumni, and Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association staff.
-Broad knowledge of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, including an understanding of its organization, governance, and general policies and procedures.
-Excellent computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheet, electronic calendar management and database management. Skilled in formatting and proofreading documents. Accurate and efficient typing and data entry skills, including grammar and spelling.

Position Summary:

This position serves as the staff assistant to the Dean of the College of Letters and Science (L&S), which is one of the largest units at UW-Madison, with over 800 faculty, 20,000 students and 1,450 staff. The position provides advanced administrative support to the Dean and the College. This position manages the Dean's time, calendar, correspondence, schedules, and travel arrangements. This position develops highly sensitive and confidential materials and compiles data and summary reports to be utilized by the Dean in making decisions on sensitive or confidential matters relating to employer-employee relationships, named professorships, strategy information, alternative courses of action, and management policies. This position serves as liaison for the Dean with the Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association. The position provides staff support across a variety of L&S functions, including the L&S Faculty Senate, academic program review activities, and special events.
