Position Summary: The Academic Advising Program (AAP) serves approximately 16,000 undergraduates in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Our mission is to create a supportive environment in which we partner with undergraduates as they explore personal goals, develop educational plans, and thrive at Carolina. The Health Professions Advisor will provide leadership and direction for designing, developing, evaluating and managing programs that foster health professions students' academic and career exploration, self-assessment, and preparation for applying to health professions. The Health Professions Advisor builds strong relationships with Health professions schools and programs, serving as the principal source of information and advice within the College of Arts & Sciences about preparation for health-related professions. The advisor directly advises students on matters related to application and admission processes, as well as course selection in preparation for applying to a variety of health professions. This position also designs and delivers group advising sessions aimed at students at various stages of their undergraduate work; prepares print and electronic advising resources; meets with individual students to provide guidance and respond to questions. The Health Professions Advisor advises undergraduate and graduate students in the College of Arts & Sciences, professional school students, and alumni about exploring professional, career and educational options and in obtaining effective experiential learning, job and further educational or research opportunities. The Health Professions Advisor will assist with programming aimed at introducing students to the range of career options in the health professions, drawing on relationships built with key constituents including Health Professions Advisor organizations, faculty and staff at health professions schools, admissions officers, alumni, and other professionals in these careers.

Education Requirements: Minimum of a Master's Degree required with three to five years of academic advising or related experience at an institution of higher education.

Qualification and Experience: Preference will be given to those who possess experience and knowledge in the following areas: 1. Health professions advising. 2. Working collaboratively with staff and colleagues. 3. Building campus-wide partnerships that strategically and effectively serve undergraduate health professions students. 4. Using a student-centered, inclusive and affirming approach to working in a university environment. 5. Strong oral and written communication skills. The successful candidate will have demonstrated a compassion for students, obvious leadership skills, excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, a willingness to initiate or take on new and challenging assignments, and a spirit of cooperation among colleagues and constituents. Positive contributions to the advising profession and the University may be demonstrated through a combination of quality service to students, committee work, presentations, participation in University events, and/or involvement in health professions advising organizations including Health Professions Advisors of NC (HPANC), Southern Association of Advisors to Health Professions (SAAHP) and National Association of Advisors to Health Professions (NAAHP).
