GRADUATE COORDINATOR, ANTHROPOLOGY
Duties: Anthropology is the study of humans, past and present. In the Penn Anthropology Department, our individual research topics engage a range of contemporary issues, including corporations and finance, media and communication, migration and demographics, science and technology, health and environment, heritage and identity, race and gender, violence and social control, poverty and rights, and political and economic development. This research informs the courses we teach. Anthropology is the involved social science. It is scientifically rooted and actively engaged. It moves with the times. It makes a difference.
The Graduate Coordinator works closely with the Graduate Group Chair to design, implement and maintain effective methods of managing the Graduate Program in Anthropology at Penn. This position also reports to and meets with the Department Administrator with respect to Department duties, events, and staff related obligations. The coordinator oversees all phases of the Graduate Program including pre-admissions, admissions, coursework, examinations, and graduation by advising students. In addition, the coordinator identifies, communicates and problem solves all related issues between students, faculty and administration, as well as organizes some events such as the prospective student visit and orientation.
Qualifications: High School degree and 5 to 7 years of of secretarial/administrative experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, is required. Bachelor's Degree is strongly preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and detail oriented. Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, while working quickly and independently. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Web updates.
