School of Physician Assistant Practice - College of Medicine
This position is for a Principal Faculty member who has primary responsibility of teaching evidence-based practice and research, guiding student and faculty research in the areas of clinical medicine, Physician Assistant (PA) Practice and PA education. In addition, the incumbent will lead the management of the Comprehensive Longitudinal Research
Database (CLRD) and the interpretation of program specific data.
The Principal Faculty will be expected to:
Provide guidance and mentorship in the areas of research and other scholarly pursuits to students and faculty in the areas of clinical medicine, PA Practice and PA education. Serve as course director and teach courses in the School of Physician Assistant Practice in their area of expertise. Participate in student selection and admissions process, student orientation, recruitment events and also in student evaluations.
Serve as advisor to a small cohort of students and serve on program-specific committees. Provide academic and career advice to students. Participate in scholarly activities resulting in publication and/or presentation at regional and national meetings. Attend appropriate state and national professional meetings. Serve as small group facilitator in program courses.
Design and monitor program data-collection strategies. Collect and/or assemble program data. Verify the accuracy of program data. Prepare program data as requested by the program director or designee. Develop grant applications, accreditation reports, and other documents required of the program. If incumbent is a clinician, maintain clinical competency and knowledge of current best practices within the profession. Serve as guest lecturer in Program and Institutional courses as invited. Assist in the development of courses with appropriate learning outcomes, student learning objectives and methods of assessment.
Participate in scheduled COM and division meetings. Participate in the development, monitoring, refining and assessment of plans to achieve the vision of the program, consistent with the broader missions and strategic directions of the COM. Participate in program accreditation activities. Assist with the implementation of quality assurance practices to ensure continual curriculum and program assessment and evaluation as stipulated by ARC-PA. Additional duties as assigned by the Program Director.
Terminal degree for the Physician Assistant profession or a Ph.D, and demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service.
Demonstrated success in research, assessment, statistical analysis, and evaluation.
Ability to effectively communicate, including receiving instructions, assignments, or directions from program leadership.
Knowledge of the ethical guidelines as well as state and federal rules and regulations surrounding general and human subject research.
Expert knowledge and skill in database programs such as Microsoft Access, Excel, SPSS and/or SAS statistical analysis programs or equivalent software.
Skill in developing data collection instruments, such as surveys.
Skill in developing research designs, program evaluation techniques, and data analysis methods.
Current Florida or Georgia Driver's License, or the ability to obtain.
