The Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art in the College of Arts & Humanities invites applications and nominations for the position of Assistant Professor. This position is located on the Statesboro campus, but may require teaching on the other campuses.

With a focus on professional practice and leadership through creative activity, the BFSDoArt provides students with innovative curricula incorporating relevant technologies and interdisciplinary approaches to educate students with the requisite technical skills and theoretical knowledge for competitive and successful careers as professional artists, art historians, and designers. The BFSDoArt offers interactions with visiting artists and scholars, and a diverse exhibition schedule in our state-of-the-art Center for Art and Theatre galleries. Scholarship, internship, and travel abroad opportunities are also available in our ongoing commitment to the development of a well-rounded future world citizen whose creative research recognizes both aesthetic issues and global awareness.

Position Description. Reporting to the BFSDoArt Department Chair, the Assistant Professor position requires teaching experience in Foundation studio art courses and ART 1000, Art in Life (Art Appreciation) or Art Survey courses. Department service responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: assisting chair with the administration of the Foundation studies program, Foundations departmental governance, and curriculum development; work with the chair and dean to oversee departmental budgets, including development and implementation; help in the development of a strategic plan for the Foundations program; assist chair to coordinate, supervise and evaluate GA's and TA's within the department through class observations, review of student evaluations, and review of contributions to the department goals; work with the admissions department to recruit talented undergraduate students to Georgia Southern; and teaching in the graduate program as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned MFA in Studio ART or a closely related art and design field by August 1, 2019
  • 3-6 years as the Instructor of Record for ART 1000/Art Appreciation or survey courses, 2D/ 3D Design, Drawing, Painting, Digital Foundations (Adobe Suite), and/or related studio Foundation art courses
  • Experience developing and implementing a Foundations curriculum
  • Active scholarship activity
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite
  • Ability to work with students and faculty of diverse backgrounds
  • University-level administrative experience
