The CNM/WHNP functions both collaboratively and in consultation with physicians as a member of the interdisciplinary team. The duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Perform assessments/screening, complex diagnosis, coordinate services in OB/GYN, and management of maternal and newborn care; assist women in all stages of pregnancy, childbirth and post-delivery; collaborate with obstetricians/gynecologists in diagnosing and treating women with acute and chronic illnesses
  • Perform procedures, maintain and manage a continuing population of patients, provide maternal and newborn care according to protocol, write orders as delineated by clinical pathways, and report to the attending physician directly and/or through chief residents and fellows
  • Counsel and educate patients and families related to maternal and newborn care; serve as a patient/family advocate
  • Practice within the health care system and perform consultation, collaborative management, or referral as indicated by the health status of the client; practice in accordance with the Standards for the Practice of Midwifery, as defined by the American College of Nurse-Midwives
  • Follow established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards
  • Provide six half-day clinic sessions at various locations (MOB, L&D and Washington County)
  • Participate in the teaching of medical students and residents
  • Maintain all required certifications
  • All other duties as assigned
