Research Associate - Honey Bee Molecular Biology

SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of a Faculty member, the Research Associate – in Honey Bee Molecular Biology will be part of a laboratory concerned with honey bee biotic and abiotic environmental stressors, and will perform related experiments using molecular and omics technologies.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Execute molecular biology protocols such as PCR, RNA extraction, qPCR

  2. Perform honey bee husbandry activities and data collection

  3. Maintain detailed data in proper spreadsheet layout.

  4. Maintain honey bee hives in the field

  5. Assist supervisor with data analysis

  6. Assist in the designing and conducting Honey bee research

  7. Supervise and work with undergraduate / graduate students

  8. Travel occasionally as required to assist with collaborative projects

  9. Other related duties as required.

    MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

                M.S. in Biology, Biotechnology, Agriculture, or related field.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  10. General knowledge of DNA / RNA methods

  11. Knowledge of experimental design

  12. Knowledge of honey bee rearing is a plus

  13. Effective oral and writing skills

  14. Computer literacy

  15. Ability to work cooperatively in a team effort

  16. Initiative, resourcefulness, punctuality, and ability to work independently are essential

  17. Field research involves extended physical exertion
