Primary Function of Organization Unit: The Physics Department provides: (1) High quality Physics instruction to the University community through gateway courses in introductory physics; (2) educational opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students in physics through high quality curricula, faculty, and research facilities; (3) outreach programs that advance scientific knowledge. Our research programs cover a diverse spectrum including astrophysics, general relativity, condensed matter theory and experiment, computational physics, biophysics, nanoscale science, physics education, experimental nuclear physics, particle and nuclear theory, experimental optics, and experimental atomic and molecular physics. The department enrolls approximately 110 graduate students and 160 undergraduate physics majors. The department size is approximately 40 tenure-track faculty.

Essential Job Duties: Direct an internationally recognized and funded program of research in theoretical nuclear physics. The candidate's research program should be aligned with that of the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams Theory Alliance (FRIB-TA). A successful candidate is expected to contribute to FRIB-related research activities. Position will advise and direct undergraduate students, graduate students and post doctoral research associates in research leading to peer-reviewed publications. This position will also teach undergraduate and graduate classes at the standard departmental teaching load for research active faculty. This position will provide service to the Department and/or the University through membership on standing committees.

Minimum Education/Experience: Ph.D. degree in physics or a physics-related area.

Department Required Skills: Must have experience teaching physics to undergraduate and/or graduate students. Publication of research articles in peer-reviewed professional journals.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: Preference will be given to candidates whose research program is aligned with that of the "Facility for Rare Isotope Beams Theory Alliance (FRIB-TA)". A successful candidate is expected to contribute to FRIB-TA related activities.
