The University of Virginia Office of the Provost is recruiting for a Finance Associate. The executive vice president and provost of the University is charged by the Board of Visitors and the president with overseeing education, research, and public service in the schools of the University, in the University's libraries and museums, and in numerous other academically related units. The budgets of these units flow through the Office of the Provost.
The incumbent in this position represents the Provost's Office within the University community. The incumbent independently performs most financial operation responsibilities, including performing procurement and reconciliation related functions, monitoring funds, analyzing fund balances, investigating discrepancies, and representing the Provost's Office on institutional task forces and committees as appropriate. The incumbent will be well versed in all UVa financial applications and policies and provide assistance to affiliated units in an advisory and/or training capacity. Additionally, the finance associate is an early adopter of new and improved tools to enhance or streamline financial operations, reporting and analysis responsibilities.
A Bachelors Degree in a discipline that incorporates data analysis and interpretation is required. A Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or a related business field is preferred. A minimum of two years of prior experience in an academic institution is essential. Experience with procurement and vendor management, accounts payable, reconciliation, financial analysis, and communicating financial information to a generalist audience is preferable.
Candidates are required to possess strong analytical and numerical ability and the ability to analyze and present information. The ability to conduct activities and make decisions according to ethical standards is essential. Candidates must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication in daily interactions and maintain knowledge of UVa's financial policies and procedures and ability to assist others less experienced via one on one or group interaction. The ability to research and author financial reports and present findings to a wider audience, ability to work independently and as part of a team including working with senior leaders to accomplish goals, and the ability to learn and master a variety of database and software programs are all required. Candidates are also require to grasp the University's educational mission, strategic aims, and programs.
Candidates must be proficient in computer applications, especially with numerical and statistical applications, such as Excel. Preference will be given to those who have experience in Oracle financials or other financial application software.
