Position Summary: The Director of Special Events for UNC Children's will develop and implement a strategic, comprehensive events program designed to raise $800,000-$1M per year in unrestricted support. He/she will be responsible for working with individuals, corporations and foundations to personally solicit all major event sponsors. They will plan and manage our signature events, annual donor appreciation event, fundraising luncheons across the state, stewardship events, and all pipeline development events. This individual will also will oversee our Special Events Coordinator, who is responsible for community fundraisers and board of visitor meetings. He/she will also be responsible for helping create a pipeline for major donors within UNC Children's through these special events. This individual will be a front-line fundraiser with metrics measuring success.

Education Requirements: A bachelor's degree or higher

Qualification and Experience: Candidates should have 5 or more years of comprehensive event planning experience and a record of demonstrated success in personally soliciting and closing gifts/sponsorships. He/she must have strong verbal and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills and sound judgement; attention to detail and accuracy; creativity and problem solving skills. Preferred candidates will have excellent contract negotiation skills, knowledge of catering, banquet and event planning best practices and the ability to independently manage multiple tasks, projects and deadlines. Familiarity with The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is a plus. Evening and weekend work and statewide travel will be a required part of the position.
