Job Description
The Mail Services Department at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire a Mail Technician to join our team.

Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
* Collects outgoing U.S. Mail and campus mail from University offices and carries it to the Mail Room.
* Counts, records and sorts Interdepartmental and USPS box mail to designated slots in sorting bins, answers calls and assists or transfers calls as needed, delivers interdepartmental mail and the department's USPS box mail to all designated stops within a given time frame twice daily, Sorts, checks and verifies departments accountable notification red cards against manifest sheet to deliver and receive department personnel signature, picks up interdepartmental and USPS outgoing mail (letters, flats, etc.) twice daily, assists in standard mail area in picking up standard mailings, sorting, tagging and bagging and preparing forms for dispatch, drives vehicle on campus route when necessary, keeps mileage records, observes safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.
* Skill in evaluating facts or situations to route calls/customers appropriately.
* Skill in telephone etiquette and courteous communications with public.
* Skill in basic office procedures.
* Skill in the use of personal computer/software
* Skill in the operation of a variety of office machines including personal computer, telephones, and copiers.
* Skill in basic filing and recordkeeping

Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess a Graduation from High School or GED equivalent and one year of general office or clerical experience. Substitution of education for experience allowed. The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required:

* Working knowledge of postal practices, methods, and regulations.
* Skill in basic filing and recordkeeping.
* Skill in evaluating facts or situation to route calls/customers appropriately.
* Skill in telephone etiquette and courteous communications with public.
* Manual dexterity and physical ability to perform work requiring standing, stooping, lifting, walking, and some weather exposure.
* Ability to learn a delivery/pick-up route.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
* Knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.

Preferred Qualifications
The following knowledge, skills and abilities are required:

* Have a valid drivers license or ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.
* Working knowledge of postal practices, methods, and regulations.
* Skill in basic filing and record keeping
* Skill in evaluating facts or situation to route calls/Customers appropriately.
* Basic telephone skills.
* Manual dexterity and physical ability to perform work requiring standing, stooping, lifting, walking, and some weather exposure.
* Ability to learn a delivery / pick-up route.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
* Knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.
