Position Summary:

The Executive Director of Marketing and Communications provides strategic vision and leadership for at UCI Health, advancing the institution's priorities through public and media relations, marketing and advertising, promotional partnerships, and internal and executive communication. Reporting to UCI's Associate Chancellor, Strategic Communications & Public Affairs, with full access and support of the Health System Associate Chancellor Strategic Communications & Public Affairs the Executive Director leads integrated, strategic programs that support a quality patient experience, strengthen the reputation and brand, and drive growth and financial success for UCI Health. This leader provides counsel and advice to leadership throughout the UCI enterprise, including the CEO, deans and members of the Chancellor's Cabinet.
The position carries significant organizational responsibility and authority for framing positive public perception of UCI Health in a highly scrutinized and politically charged arena. This position works collaboratively with UCI's Strategic Communications &Public Affairs, the UC Office of the President, and colleagues in academic, research and administrative units to develop strategic communications plans, initiatives, positioning and messaging, particularly those related to patient care, population health, research, and education.

Required Qualifications:

Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload

Direct communication experience in an academic healthcare, health sciences, or other clinical/research-related enterprise.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

Experience in complex, decentralized organizations, such as an academic medical center, medical school or major research university.

Experience in managing and mentoring professionals in a deadline-driven environment

Master's Degree in Communication, Public Relations, Media, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum of eight years relevant public relations, communications or media experience

Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job

Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
