Position: Assistant Professor of Accounting or Assistant Professor of Practice of Accounting
Stetson University’s School of Business Administration seeks applicants and nominations for a full-time, 9-month faculty appointment in Accounting at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure track) or Assistant Professor of Practice (non-tenure track). Candidates may be considered for either a tenure-track or non-tenure-track position. The individual will be located at Stetson’s DeLand, Florida, campus but teaching responsibilities may include teaching at other campuses within the Stetson system, as well as teaching courses online or in a hybrid format.
The Stetson School of Business is an entrepreneurially minded School dedicated to delivering an innovative and comprehensive business curriculum and experience to our students. Applicants interested in developing distinctive courses and programs that leverage interdisciplinary collaborations and experiential learning within the School and across the institution are preferred.
The University seeks candidates who meet one of the following profiles. Candidates should also have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work with multiple constituencies of diverse backgrounds.
Evidence of professional activity sufficient to be qualified as Scholarly Academic or Scholarly Practitioner under the AACSB guidelines is preferred. Backgrounds in audit, financial or tax accounting are preferred.
Profile 1: Assistant Professor of Accounting (tenure-track)
For a tenure-track position, a PhD or DBA or other doctoral degree in accounting from an AACSB accredited institution required by August, 2019; possession of a CPA license (or international equivalency) and relevant professional experience in accounting is strongly preferred. Experienced Assistant Professor candidates are expected to have demonstrated excellent teaching performance and have an active research stream with a record of publishing in academic journals. Entry-level Assistant Professor candidates are expected to demonstrate potential for effective teaching, preferably with teaching experience financial accounting, taxation or auditing, and scholarly activity that leads to publication in peer-reviewed journals. The teaching load is three (3) courses per semester.
Profile 2: Assistant Professor of Practice in Accounting (non-tenure track)
For a non-tenure-track position, candidates should have a Ph.D., DBA, MSA/MPA/MAcc or M.B.A. with a concentration in Accounting, Auditing or Taxation from an AACSB accredited institution. A CPA license (or international equivalency) is strongly preferred; CMA, CIA, or other relevant certification are also beneficial as is high-level experience in practice. This candidate must demonstrate potential for effective and engaging teaching activity in the area of financial accounting, taxation or auditing. Prior college level teaching is preferred. Evidence of recent and ongoing professional engagement in the field of accounting, such as contributions to scholarly practitioner publications, active participation in professional organizations, and active practice or consulting engagement are required to maintain appropriate qualifications with the School’s AACSB-based guidelines. Contracts are multi-year and renewable. Course load will be determined based on expertise and experience. The standard teaching load for a Professor of Practice is four (4) courses per semester.
Stetson University tenure-track faculty typically teach three unit courses each semester; non-tenure-track faculty typically teach four courses. Teaching responsibilities will depend on the candidate’s disciplinary expertise and may include offerings for the University’s requirements in General Education. Additional responsibilities include: undergraduate advising; student recruitment; engaging with university, school, and departmental committees and meetings; and building partnerships with both Florida-based and national practitioners and potential employers. Potential exists for teaching at the graduate level. Engagement in multidisciplinary collaborations with other faculty is anticipated.

The mission of the M. E. Rinker, Sr. Institute of Tax and Accountancy (www.stetson.edu/accounting) is to offer intellectually challenging undergraduate and graduate education that facilitates the development of our students as successful accounting professionals. The focus of the department's educational program is excellence in teaching in a rigorous, yet supportive, learning environment. The department currently serves more than 140 undergraduate students and about 30 graduate students. The department’s course requirements meet the CPA exam requirements and offer a seamless transition from the undergraduate program into the Master of Accountancy program.
