Description: The School of Music at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign seeks an excellent scholar with teaching and research interests that complement the specializations of the current Musicology faculty in geographical and historical terms. The successful candidate will work in a program that combines the perspectives of music historians and ethnomusicologists, and will join colleagues who place high value on fostering a diverse and inclusive culture. Duties: Build a record of professional excellence through innovative scholarship and publication; contribute to the teaching of a diverse curriculum for majors and non-majors, including topical, genre, and period courses in the area of specialization for undergraduate and graduate majors, and graduate seminars targeting specialized topics and contemporary issues in musicology; mentor and advise Ph.D. and D.M.A students; and undertake service obligations as assigned.

Rank and Salary: The position is a full-time nine-month tenure-track faculty appointment with a proposed start date of 16 August 2019. Salary is competitive.

Qualifications: Ph.D. in musicology or ethnomusicology completed by August 15, 2019. Evidence of scholarly excellence and a strong commitment to teaching required. College-level teaching experience preferred. Preference will be given to candidates who specialize in one or more of the following areas: music histories between ca. 1450 and ca.1750; music of Asia, Africa, and/or Spanish America; and global perspectives in music. An ability to take on a wide range of curricular assignments and evidence of creative approaches to pedagogy will be advantageous, as will an ability to interface with cross-campus research initiatives.
