Additional Information Purpose To serve as an instructional designer to support the implementation of Texas OnCourse. Instructional designer will provide support in video production as well as development and authoring of online, interactive learning experiences.
Essential Functions Design and review content-specific assessment items including multiple choice, true or false, multiple select, matching, etc. Analyze and validate assessments to improve their effectiveness. Develop eLearning courses using HTML authoring tools. Create instructional content using multimedia instructional design principles and adult learning theories to facilitate retention and transfer. Design and develop on-line instructional activities using authoring tools such as HTML and Adobe Captivate. Incorporate elements of graphic design, animation, and interactive quizzes to create engaging and visually impressive instructional experiences. Script, storyboard, and create videos using a variety of software including cloud-based animated video creation platform such as VYond. In collaboration with the Texas OnCourse Content and Resources team, systemically design, develop, and revise instructional content to ensure the instruction serves the needs of the target end-users including counselors, advisers, middle school students, and families. Create informative infographic mock-ups. Assist in the creation of effective lesson plans and curriculum. Write and revise instructional text and scripts for both videos and on-line learning modules. Apply research-based learning theories and instructional methodologies to the design, delivery, and evaluation of learning content (e.g., custom eLearning, video, scenario-based instruction). In collaboration with SMEs and tech vendors, facilitate cycle of continuous improvement of all products and services, using data-driven methods and according to current trends in educational innovation.
Marginal/Incidental functions Provide consultation on instructional design decisions to Texas OnCourse leadership. Attend one-on-one meetings with Assist. Director of Content and Resources, team meetings, and staff professional development trainings, and other duties as assigned.
Required qualifications Master's degree in educational or instructional technology, instructional design, computer science, curriculum and instruction, higher education, or related field. Minimum of two years related experience in instructional design, educational technology, training, pedagogy, or curricular development in secondary or postsecondary educational settings. Expertise in learning theories and instructional design models. Ability to write and revise effective instructional text, scripts, and assessments. Demonstrated experience working with clients or learning management systems. Exceptional oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of current trends in instructional design and technology. Demonstrated successes developing and working in diverse, collaborative, project-based teams involving faculty content experts, expert consultants, and technology developers. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications Four or more years of experience in front-end web development. Experience writing assessment questions for adult learners. Experience with e-learning authoring tools such as Captivate. Experience with audio narration and publishing videos to YouTube.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
