Additional Information Purpose Provide system security and administration in a secure Unix environment. Essential Functions Perform Linux server/network administration and maintain system security. Provide system administration support to project software developers and off-site system end users. Propose and document system requirements. Participate in project development activities with minimal guidance from senior engineering scientists or project managers. Perform server and data archive hardware troubleshooting and component replacement. Marginal/Incidental functions Other related functions as assigned. Required qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or other relevant technical field. Experience in cyber security and technical implementation of security guidelines to DoD standards. Individual must be knowledgeable on system administration and networks. Evidence of skills in the following areas: servers, virtual environments, networks, effective time management, effective problem solving skills, working independently with sensitive and confidential information and working under pressure. U.S. Citizen. Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in computer science, information science, or an applied science with five or more years of required professional experience as described above. Experience in analyzing and troubleshooting network and server issues. Experience with development, staging, and deployment of operating systems and maintain system security level across multiple Unix platforms. Some experience in VMware and supporting a virtual Unix environment. The ability to work with and support a software development team with an aggressive schedule. Eligibility for immediate access to classified information. Working conditions May work around standard office conditions Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation Use of manual dexterity Some weekend, evening and holiday work. May work in shared, windowless office space. Possible intrastate/interstate travel.
A criminal history background check will be required for finalist(s) under consideration for this position.
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
