Additional Information Purpose To perform behavioral, pharmacological, histological and molecular experiments in rodents and report scientific results in a research lab studying the neurobiology of alcohol and drug addiction. Essential Functions Perform injections of chemical compounds, behavioral tests and intracardiac perfusions in mice. Perform tissue (primarily brain) dissection from mice. Assists with cellular and molecular assays including cell and nuclei isolation as well as isolation of RNA and DNA. Assist with maintaining documentation for animal colonies and purchasing laboratory supplies through UTMarket, Purchase Orders, or the laboratory Procard. Maintain and troubleshoot equipment; write protocols. Prepare and maintain purchasing records. Marginal/Incidental functions Other related functions as assigned. Required qualifications Master's degree and one year of related experience; or Bachelor's degree in biology and two years of related experience as stated in the essential functions of this position, including experience working independently. Familiarity with engineering and/or scientific equipment ordinarily used in a research laboratory. Strong written and verbal communication skills and excellent attention to detail. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in biology and two years of related lab experience; or Bachelor's degree in biology and four years of related laboratory experience in the field of research. Experience with rodent stereotaxic surgeries; cellular and molecular assays. Knowledge of a programming language. Working knowledge of UT policies and procedures. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
