Assistant Professor of Computer Science
Tenure Track Position in Computer Science:
The John Carroll University Department of Mathematics and Computer Science prides itself in offering a diverse selection of majors: Computer Science, Computer Science with Healthcare Technology, Data Science, Mathematics, and Teaching Mathematics. We invite applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Computer Science at the level of Assistant Professor, beginning Fall 2019. Full consideration will be given to candidates whose applications are completed by November 9, 2018, but applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
While outstanding candidates in all areas of Computer Science will be considered, the successful candidate is expected to help advance the University’s programs in new directions. As a small, dynamic department, we offer the opportunity for faculty and students to explore trending areas, experiment with new pedagogy, and encourage creativity in developing new classes and programs. We seek candidates with a strong commitment to teaching, whose research invites undergraduate collaborators, and whose areas of expertise will enhance the stature of the department. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: machine learning, information security, mobile computing, full stack development, smart communities and internet-of-things, immersive technologies, and large scale data algorithms. With a load reduction for research, normal duties include nine hours of teaching per semester, continued scholarship, as well as other departmental and university professional responsibilities.
A Ph.D. in Computer Science or related discipline, or imminent completion of the Ph.D. by Fall 2019, is required.
The successful candidate will demonstrate the potential for excellent teaching in a liberal arts setting, have an active research program, have the ability to contribute to curricular development in Computer Science, and will be committed to working closely with students and with faculty from other disciplines. Candidates should also be committed to fostering diversity and inclusion in the field of Computer Science.
Applicants are required to apply electronically at https://jcu.peopleadmin.com/postings/1582. A complete application consists of a letter of application, CV, contact information for at least three references, statement on teaching, statement on research, and unofficial copies of graduate transcripts. The teaching and research statements should be submitted under the “Portfolio” document heading of the online application. Questions about the department, program, or this position can be directed to Dr. Barbara D’Ambrosia, Mathematics and Computer Science Department Chair, at [email protected] or (216) 397-4682.
