Primary Function of Organization Unit: Today's global business environment is bringing new opportunities and challenges to the accounting profession. New business reporting models, international financial reporting standards, corporate governance, financial disclosure, fraud prevention, and government regulations are all shaping the future of the profession. The Department of Accounting at North Carolina State University Poole College of Management combines rigorous technical accounting training with a general overview of business topics and a foundation in professional skills to prepare our accounting students for careers in this dynamic environment. The Department of Accounting prepares students for accounting careers through the following degree programs. * Bachelor of Science in Accounting, with concentrations in Financial Analysis, Information Systems, Managerial Accounting, and Internal Audit. The Bachelor of Science in Accounting is designed to prepare students for Master of Accounting Programs and entry-level accounting positions in business and industry. Students interested in becoming a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) should plan on pursuing a Master of Accounting degree. * Master of Accounting, with concentrations in enterprise risk management, information technology, and tax strategy. Students also may take a course in sustainability. The Master of Accounting program is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in professional accounting firms and becoming a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Essential Job Duties: The NC State University College of Management seeks an Associate Director of Student Programs and Career Services for its MAC Program. The MAC Program at NC State University prepares students to meet the challenges and expectations of professional accounting and business careers in today's competitive marketplace. Since the MAC Program's inception in 1994, its annual enrollment has grown from approximately 60 students to an incoming MAC class of 115 students. The Associate Director of Student Programs and Career Services will have responsibilities in four areas: 1. Career Services - Estimated Percentage of Time 50% * Lead staff person for employment activities for MAC students. * Work with the Poole College of Management leadership team to develop a strategy for building relationships with potential employers of MAC graduates. * Implement that strategy by leveraging existing relationships with companies that recruit at NC State and by developing relationships with potential recruiting companies. * Serve as the primary liaison for employers who seek to employ MAC graduates. * Develop relationships with Poole College of Management alumni that will lead to internship and employment opportunities for MAC graduates. * Plan recruitment activities including Tour of Cities, Meet the Firms, Corporate and Governmental Accounting Day. * Serve as a point of contact for students and employers related to resume software. * Act as a resource to MAC students seeking full-time jobs and seniors seeking internships who have questions regarding the recruitment process. * Respond to emails and phone inquiries from current and prospective employers. * Work with MAC Assistant Director of Admissions and the University Career Services Center to ensure that campus interviews run smoothly. * Identify and target candidates for the MAC Fellowship Program and the undergraduate Internship Program. * Plan MAC Fellowship Program campus interviews. * Coach MAC students and senior intern candidates on an as-needed basis; including personal assessments, resume critiques, job search strategies and self-marketing plans, and mock interviews. * Administer semester long MAC Program Sponsored Accounting Intern Recruitment (AIR) Program 2. Instruction - Estimated Percentage of Time 25% * Co-instructor for ACC 600, including developing agenda, identification, and arranging of speakers, presenting topics and leading classes. * Coordinator for MAC Orientation Program, including developing agenda, identification, and arranging of speakers, presenting topics, and leading program * Coordinator of Summer Leadership Conference, in concert with the North Carolina Association of CPA's, developing marketing efforts for conference, developing agenda, arranging speakers, presenting topics and leading conference. * Coordinator of ACC 499, thereby reducing the efforts required of full-time faculty * Work with MAC Curriculum Committee to identify curriculum changes based on benchmarking other MAC programs and consult with members from practice, develop timeline for changes and work with faculty to implement changes. 3. Online MAC Program - Estimated Percentage of Time 20% * Support MAC Director in the implementation of soon-to-be-launched online MAC Program, including representing MAC Director in meetings, overseeing development of curriculum, working with faculty to develop and deliver online courses, developing residency program for online students and expanding career services to include online students. * Use skills in developing synchronous and asynchronous instruction and seated-program services in an online environment. 4. New Student Recruitment and Admissions - Estimated Percentage of Time 5% * Coordinate Tours of Cities Events
Minimum Education/Experience: Require post-baccalaureate credential or a four-year degree, preferably in business or a related field along with a minimum of 5 years of experience in career services, corporate recruiting, human resources, marketing and/or a related field.
Department Required Skills: * Experience in MAC career services at another university or experience in recruiting MACs for public accounting. * Strong communication, both oral and written, coaching and mentoring skills are critical to this position. Individuals need to be effective presenters of information and must be able to work in a team environment and take initiative. * Experience in working with basic software, such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access is expected. * Individuals will be expected to travel and work evening hours when necessary.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: Experience with career services and campus recruiting.
