The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry in the College of Science and Mathematics invites applications and nominations for the position of Assistant Professor with a specialization in analytical chemistry. This position is located on the Armstrong campus in Savannah, GA, but may require teaching on the other campuses.

Within this setting, the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is housed in the College of Science and Mathematics. The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers two ACS certified Bachelor of Science degrees in chemistry and biochemistry as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree in chemistry. The department also offers a Master of Science in Applied Physical Science with concentrations in pharmaceutical science, materials and coatings science, and environmental science. The Department is rapidly increasing its externally funded research activities and is housed in a 14 year-old, recently reconfigured, 47,000 square foot facility containing modern classrooms with dedicated teaching and research laboratories on the Statesboro campus and a similar facility on the Armstrong campus. The 2018 consolidated department is comprised of 36 tenured and tenure-track faculty and 9 lecturer faculty. The faculty focus on high quality, student-centered undergraduate and graduate education that prepares students for careers in the chemical industry as well as medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and education. The department is committed to both graduate and undergraduate research with the majority of undergraduate biochemistry and chemistry majors participating, thus furthering their preparedness for post-baccalaureate studies in many fields. Position Description. Reporting to the Department Chair, the Assistant Professor requires teaching, service, and scholarship responsibilities. The position is a 9-month tenure track appointment, with a salary that is both competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned Ph.D. in Chemistry (with an analytical chemistry emphasis), or an earned doctorate in a closely related field, by August 1, 2019
  • Commitment to teaching excellence in the undergraduate and graduate classroom
  • Potential for developing an externally funded research program in the area of analytical chemistry that fully involves and engages both graduate and undergraduate students
  • Ability to work with diverse populations
  • Effective communication skills in spoken and written English
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Post-doctoral experience
  • Teaching experience
