Job Description
The seasoned Sr. Curriculum Designer works under the supervision of the Manager of Learning Design to promote instructional design best practices in andragogy, active learning and instructional design methodologies in the design of online and on-campus courses. This role individually contributes to a small design team including internal partners and subject matter consultants in the development of curriculum design documents that follow the university’s established standards and best practices. This role also oversees curriculum design projects assigned to external instructional designers, using established templates and best practices through a systems perspective. In that effort, the person in this role is also responsible for checking progress and quality of curriculum design documents developed by external instructional designers and to provide feedback and coaching based on university’s established standards and best practices for learning engagement.

Paygrade 10: $23.58/hr-$29.47/hr

Required Experience / Education

● Master’s degree - instructional design, curriculum and instruction; Bachelor’s degree with equivalent years of experience minimum demonstrated in work product samples
● Minimum 5 years experience managing online learning curriculum projects i higher education
● Collaborating in an educational curriculum development environment
● Researching subject matter resources
● Collaborating to design learning engagement that reflects adult learning principles
● Experience in an elearning or curriculum design and development environment
● Demonstrated understanding of adult learning theory, application of Bloom’s Taxonomy and Kolb’s experiential learning model
● Demonstrated ability to write original curricular content, including textbook independent online discussion questions, student facing instructions, evaluation criteria and rubrics
● Understanding of how to vet copyright, fair use and creative commons licensing

Desired Experience / Education

●Doctoral degree instructional design, curriculum and instruction, educational technology, adult learning, online education

●Experience with academic institutions, adult learners and higher education faculty, a plus

●Experience (or familiarity) working with textbook publishers and open educational resources, a plus

●Experience in storyboarding for elearning or interactive or narrative instructional/training media, a plus

●Experience using Moodle LMS for course quality checking

Primary Duties
● Conduct meetings and develop course vision documents
● Plan and implement course design projects
● Conduct onboarding sessions with new external IDs
● Communicate project scope, goals and deliverables to external IDs
● Manage multiple external instructional design projects and assign course design projects
● Allocate project resources
● Manage schedule and enforce project timeline
● Support and provide timely feedback external IDs
● Monitor, track and report on project progress
● Present to stakeholders reports on progress as well as problems and solutions
● Implement and manage change when necessary to meet project outputs
● Evaluate and assess result of project
● Supports instructional design of courses for online and on-campus modalities
● Develops and aligns learning objectives, methods of assessment and learning activities with established course learning outcomes based on input from subject matter experts and internal academic partners
● Liaises with academic leadership, curriculum team and learning design manager for input, feedback and approvals at specific process milestones during the design and development process
● Collaborates with elearning team members to meet deadlines for course development and deployment
● Lead in quality checking course design documents for adherence to best practices through systemic perspective
● Apply systems perspective in learning design approach based on academic levels
● Incorporates faith orientation to curriculum
● Proofs, edits and fact checks instructional media scripts and copy for curriculum details as required
● Check course design guides for accuracy, adherence to best practices and to provide feedback to external instructional designers
● Liaise with internal stakeholders and subject matter consultants to produce design documents (course vision and course design) following university’s established standards and best practices
● Collaborate with internal elearning team members to plan learning media resources
● Adhere to best practices for UC's instructional design
● Promote accessibility measures
● Research subject matter sources for use in learning activities or learning media
● Works with publishers and distributors of instructional/learning resources, etextbook options, digital course pack solutions and learning media for use in online courses
● Research and identify open educational resources within online courses, where applicable; maintain affordability of required course resources
● Liaise with university copyright expert to investigate copyright clearance
● Secure copyright clearance of instructional content for use within courses
● Analyze course and learning data to inform continuous revisions of instructional design efforts
● Additional duties assigned by Manager of Learning Design and Associate VP of Learning Design & Engagement

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
● Excellent verbal and written skills, including copy editing, copy writing for learning and storyboarding
● Experience in an online learning (elearning), or training environment, preferred
● Expertise with office applications: word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, charts and/or forms
● Familiarity with copyright, fair use and creative commons licensing, as well as processes and practices for clearing, documenting and reporting copyright
● Experience in utilizing a learning management system (Moodle preferred) for course content uploads/ edits and/or course facilitation
● Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to maintain high levels of creativity and quality
● Ability to be flexible in work assignments that may require changing priorities regularly
● Ability to work in fast-paced, production environment that requires flexibility and adaptability to change
● Ability to stay on top of assigned work priorities checking in with eLearning leadership to clarify, confirm and strategize about priorities, workload and workflow
● Experience with academic institutions, a plus
● Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet project deadlines, stay on track, and communicate workflow obstacles while working on assigned projects with efficiency and attention to detail
● Self-starter with the ability to work in a team-based, fast-paced atmosphere with high standards for quality, accuracy, and innovation
● Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures in a complex university setting
