Job Summary:

The Associate Director for Military-Affiliated Communities, is a full-time staff position reporting to the Director for Affirmative Action. The Associate Director will have primary responsibility for the coordination of University efforts and specialized programs for military-affiliated communities, including a prominent veterans graduate initiative. The Associate Director will provide wrap-around services for the University's military-affiliated community and will coordinate with campus partners on University policies and procedures, academic affairs, admission, financial aid, housing, registrar services, campus and student life, and career counseling.

Responsibilities:

  • Program Administration: Lead the administration and coordination of programs for Military-Affiliated Communities, meet with students and provide direct wrap-around support services and comprehensive programming for the military-affiliated community, assist with outreach and engagement efforts of veteran employees, work with the Registrar's to evaluate and recommend decisions on academic program eligibility and federal certification of veterans benefits, work collaboratively with the Registrar's office and all graduate programs to maintain program certifications and serve as one of the University's Certifying Officers (CO) for all Veteran Administration (VA) benefits, manage compliance with federal and state regulations in order to maintains educational benefits files in accordance with federal regulations, prepare for federal audits as needed and assist with visit coordination.


  • Communication Strategy: Create and implement a comprehensive communications plan on veteran and military-affiliated initiatives connected with the University. Oversee website updates, listservs, and social media strategies, and work with the University communications office to raise the visibility of veterans related initiatives and highlight the prominence of University veterans efforts.


  • Community Engagement and Outreach: Cultivate and steward external community and corporate partnerships to support the military-affiliated community, coordinate and conduct trainings for internal campus partners on supporting the military-affiliated community and providing updates and communications on relevant regulatory updates.


  • Fundraising and grants: The Associate Director will work with Alumni Relations & Development (ARD) to facilitate fund raising activities and steward donor funds to maintain and enhance the efforts and resources for the University's military affiliated communities and will research and implement grant opportunities.


  • Assessment: Maintain reporting and tracking data, conduct regular assessments of program activities and initiatives, prepare reports as requested on the status of initiatives.

Additional Requirements

Education, Experience or Certifications:

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Advanced degree preferred


Experience:
  • 2 or more years of experience in higher education preferred.
