Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs and University Provost

Antioch University seeks a visionary and seasoned academic leader inspired by our institution’s historic, progressive mission to provide students with the knowledge and skills to lead meaningful lives and to advance economic, social and environmental justice. Antioch’s first President, Horace Mann, implored graduates to “win victories for humanity,” and that has been our guiding light for over 166 years. We are looking for a leader who is excited by the challenges of leading change and sees great opportunities in working collaboratively to empower Antioch as a site of engaged teaching and learning for adult learners across the country.

Antioch University is a national not-for-profit higher education institution with hybrid, on-line and onsite degrees offered at five campuses and in university-wide venues, from undergraduate through doctoral education. Our programs are designed for adult learners. We believe our geographically dispersed university is strongest when we stand together to provide high quality, socially engaged education. With current foci in liberal studies, psychology, education, counseling and mental health, management, environmental studies, the arts and writing, and leadership and change, we are poised to deepen these areas and explore new ones. An Antioch education brings academic rigor, experiential learning and social engagement to learners across the country and the world.

The successful applicant must have: an earned doctorate from an accredited university; a minimum of 10 years or more of increasingly responsible academic leadership with at least five above the Dean level; a successful record of experience with higher education academic planning, management and governance, preferably in a multi-campus environment; substantial experience with adult and nontraditional student populations; substantial experience working with geographically dispersed teams; comfort with technology as an effective tool for teaching, learning and managing; demonstrated commitment to collaborative governance; an established academic record of teaching and research equivalent to the full professor level; and a lively spirit of academic experimentation.

We are a distinctive institution looking for an engaged and inspired academic leader.

 Primary responsibilities:

  • Provide oversight of all academic and related fiscal planning, curriculum, assessment, accreditation, student success and academic personnel issues;
  • Lead, support and communicate a vision of academic transformation, experimentation and growth;

  • Create and sustain academic processes, policies and systems that enable Antioch to benefit from the strength of a national university while honoring the differences of campuses and programs.
  • Supervise Provosts, institutional effectiveness, accreditation, compliance, and academic support services.
  • Report directly to the University Chancellor and oversee, chair and/or serve on a number of university leadership councils and working groups.
