Primary Function of Organization Unit: The Vector Borne Disease Diagnostic Lab (VBDDL) is a research based unit providing serologic and molecular testing for vector borne infectious diseases in companion animals for referring veterinarians. Under the co-directorship of four College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) faculty members, 4 technicians perform routine diagnostic assays on a fee-for-service basis.

Essential Job Duties: This position will be responsible for daily administrative duties in the lab, answering and returning phone calls, unpacking daily sample submissions, update databases with new patient forms, as well as entering daily results in to appropriate databases. This position will also be instrumental in organizing and preparing blood and serum samples properly for diagnostic testing. Responsible for performing SNAP® 4DX® serology, point-of-care testing on animal samples. Learning molecular diagnostic and serology techniques for assisting research technicians if needed. This position will also assist technicians with running other tests specified, quality control and interpreting results.

Department Required Skills: - Ability to handle patient protected information with integrity. - Perform and communicate in a professional manner. - Detail-oriented and strong organizational skills. - Flexibility as it relates to schedule, responsibilities and priorities. - The ability to interact with, support, and influence positively the behavior and activities of referring veterinarians, superiors and staff/co-employees. - The ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: - Associate's or Bachelor's Degree preferred. - Five (5) years of progressively responsible work experience in a health care setting (veterinary-related preferred).
