Primary Function of Organization Unit: The Institute for Advanced Analytics, established in 2007, is a leader in graduate analytics education, an emerging field that includes data management, mathematical and statistical methods for data modeling, and techniques for data visualization in support of enterprise-wide decision making. The Institute's core mission is to produce the world's finest analytics professionals. Its flagship program is the Master of Science in Analytics (MSA), an innovative and immersive professional master's degree of ten months duration that, in addition to providing a rigorous curriculum in the tools and methods of data science/analytics, emphasizes leadership growth and development through increasing self awareness performance feedback, teamwork, and coaching.
Essential Job Duties: The Professional Development Coach / Counselor serves both as a professional development coach, collaborating with MSA students to develop their professional talents and strengths and, in some instances, counselor, working under the supervision of the NC State Counseling Center to assist MSA students with personal or other issues that may impede academic and professional performance. S/he participates in creating and facilitating training and programmatic initiatives for all MSA students designed to help them succeed academically, professionally, and personally. The position reports to the Institute's Associate Director with a "dotted line" to the Executive Director of the NCSU Counseling Center. Coaching Responsibilities: *Provide individual coaching to MSA students using an ICF-recognized coaching methodology/process, and incorporating 360° peer feedback; *Work with MSA coaching staff to create, improve, and deliver learning experiences that support professional and personal development, team building, and the pursuit of performance excellence. *Serve on Institute committees and teams as assigned Counseling Responsibilities: *Conduct intake assessments and provide individual and group counseling, health and behavior interventions to MSA students/clients (personal, academic, and developmental assessment and counseling) as needed; *Provide crisis intervention assessments as needed and coordinate access to services through medical clinics; *Provide evaluations and recommendations regarding students with academic and/or conduct problems *General administrative responsibilities associated with responsibilities listed above.
Minimum Education/Experience: * Master's degree required in psychology, counseling, or clinical social work or closely-related field and one year of experience providing counseling services to university students. Appropriate licensure must be obtained/maintained according to NC laws.
Department Required Skills: * Excellent communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills; * Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information; * Professional counseling experience in a college counseling center setting; * Established skills in building relationships that strategically and effectively serve students; * Experience working one to one or in groups with students using an interpersonal approach that builds trust and epitomizes a caring, confidential, inclusive, and supportive approach to needs assessment, resource utilization and problem-solving; * Strong clinical skills, and experience in handling crisis situations; * Ability to use a student-centered, growth mindset approach to student advising and development; * Familiarity with the academic, socioeconomic, wellness and engagement challenges facing students in a rigorous professional masters curriculum; * Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff and inter-institutional colleagues; * Facility in working in a fast-paced, changing work environment; * Experience working in a collaborative team environment. * Enthusiasm for working in a data-driven, high-performing organization. * Multicultural competence and commitment to inclusive student excellence.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * Master's degree in counseling or related field with three-plus years of experience as a student advisor or counselor at an institution of higher education; * Experience utilizing a time-limited model of care; * Completion of a coaching training program recognized by the International Coaching Federation or willingness to complete a program in the first year of employment.
Necessary Licenses and Certifications: * Appropriate licensure by mental health discipline must be obtained/maintained according to NC laws.
