Position Summary: The Department of Exercise and Sport Science invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor faculty position for all areas of exercise science. Areas of particular interest include adopting exercise, intervention, or rehabilitation by scientifically applying behavioral, mechanistic, psychological, or public health approaches. We seek an innovative scientist with independent research interests that will also strengthen and align with current research foci in our department, which includes the role of Exercise as Medicine for preventing and rehabilitating injury and disease. The new faculty member will be expected to develop strong collaborative opportunities within the department and across the greater UNC community, while engendering a climate that values diversity in all its forms. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is a major research university in the University of North Carolina System with student enrollment exceeding 29,000 students. The Department of Exercise and Sport Science (exss.unc.edu) supports an undergraduate program of over 1,200 undergraduate majors and 4 specialization areas (Athletic Training, Exercise and Sport Science, Fitness Professional, Sport Administration); a Master of Arts graduate program enrolling 60 students (Athletic Training, Exercise Physiology, Sport Administration); and a Doctoral program in Human Movement Science in partnership with the UNC-CH School of Medicine. The responsibilities for the position are as follow: * Establish and grow a focused independent research line and seek extramural/intramural funding to support research; * Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the faculty member's expertise area as assigned by the department Chair; * Serve as a research advisor and/or committee member for undergraduate and masters students in Exercise and Sport Science; * Participate as a core Human Movement Science faculty member and mentor doctoral trainees in the PhD Program; and * Perform other responsibilities and duties as may be assigned by the department Chair.
Education Requirements: A completed PhD is required by July 1, 2019, with a preferred focus on the areas of particular interest described above.
Qualification and Experience: Applicants should demonstrate the following evidence: * Record or strong potential for securing extramural research funding * Record of research publications in a clearly defined area * Interdisciplinary and translational research agenda * Collegiate-level teaching experience is desirable * Implementing innovative teaching methods and a commitment to promoting diversity in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics).
