Assistant/Associate Professor of Music Education

Position: Assistant/Associate Professor of Music Education. This is a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position to begin on August 16, 2019.

Duties: Teach undergraduate elementary and secondary general music methods, as well as other undergraduate music education courses. In addition, the successful candidate may be assigned other duties (including courses in the online MMEd program) based on individual strengths and the needs of the School of Music.

Salary, Rank, and Benefits: Salary based upon qualifications and experience. Full-time benefits include retirement, health, dental, and eye-care insurance.

Additional Information:
Illinois State University is located in Normal/Bloomington, Illinois, twin cities with a combined population of 167,000. The University enrolls approximately 21,000 students. The School of Music, one of three schools within the College of Fine Arts, has an enrollment of 380 music majors: 315 undergraduate and 65 graduate students. The School of Music has 50 full-time faculty and 50 graduate assistants.

Required Qualifications
1. Doctorate in music education or a closely related field. ABD considered. Doctorate required for tenure.
2. The candidate should possess knowledge of (a) multiple pedagogical methods for elementary (e.g., Orff, Kodaly, etc.) and secondary general music, (b) P-12 music curriculum and assessment, and (c) the edTPA.
3. Applicants should have the ability to develop partnerships with the University Lab Schools and other P-12 schools in the area.
4. Candidates must be able to demonstrate oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement for this position, as mandated by state law.
5. This position is security sensitive and employment is contingent upon passing a satisfactory criminal background investigation. You may not begin work until the criminal background investigation results have been received and cleared by Human Resources.

Desired Qualifications:
1. Successful teaching experience at the collegiate level.
2. Expertise in music technology, exceptional learners, and/or urban education.
3. Record of scholarship that includes an established or emerging record of publications, presentations at state and national conferences, and service to the profession.

Necessary Licenses/Certifications/Degrees:
Doctorate or ABD in music education or a closely related field. Doctorate required for tenure.
