The Department of Parking and Transportation at the University of Virginia is searching for a reliable Overnight Service Crew Technician.
The Service Crew Technician is responsible for fueling, checking fluids, and minor upkeep and repair of the fleet of 35+ transit buses, 1 luxury minibus, 3 luxury charter coach buses, and 10+ support vehicles at the University Transit Service and Department of Parking and Transportation. This position carries a need for detailed record keeping skills, safe and careful operation of a transit bus inside of the bus lot, as well as the ability to work with minimal supervision.
** The schedule for this position is overnight, with a set schedule of 8:00pm to 5:00am, Monday night thru Saturday morning. **
A High School Diploma or equivalent is required, as is at least 8 month of previous work experience. A Valid Driver's License with a zero or positive points balance is required. Applicants must be willing to undergo training to obtain a State of Virginia Class B Driver's License with Passenger and Air Brakes Endorsement within the first 45 days of employment. Preference will be given to candidates that already possess this license. Basic Knowledge of engine components, and knowledge of highway regulations is required. Applicants must be able to communicate (read, write, and speak) the English language. Basic understanding of computer programs is required, working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools is preferred. The ability to provide friendly customer service and conduct positive, courteous and respectful interaction with co-workers and the public is essential. Knowledge of University Transit routes and procedures, and/or familiarity with UVA Grounds is preferred.
