Part-time Faculty ESOL Tutor to Adult Learners

Job Description Summary
The TechHire Program area of WD&CE at Montgomery College is currently accepting applications for a part-time ESOL tutor to prepare adult English language learners looking to enter or reenter the workforce. This position is responsible for delivery of employment-focused English language instruction to adult learners enrolled in a short- term technology training program. This position will be located at Takoma Park/Silver Spring campuses; Hours per Week: 20 - 25 hours. This position requires regular contact with the TechHire team. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated ESOL tutor who exhibits a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to our students, and demonstrates the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner.

This is a grant funded position. Continuation beyond the contract period is contingent upon need and funding.

Job Description

Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Develop a curriculum for adult learners to improve their English language skills.
  • Prepare lesson plans, materials and activities.
  • Assess and evaluate student performance.
  • Track student progress and work closely with MIBEST ESOL Instructor, Career Navigators and Job Developer to promote student employment.
  • Maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning.


Required Qualifications:
  • BA in education or related field.
  • TESOL/TESL/TEFL Certified.
  • A minimum of 1 year teaching ESL/ESOL classes.
  • Experience working with a diverse population.
  • Proven experience in delivery of high quality, effective ESOL instruction to adult learners.
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in an institution of higher education.
  • Experience working with adult learners interested in IT careers.
