Reporting to the Dean of the Law School, the Assistant Dean for Communications & Marketing is the primary strategist for creating, managing, implementing, and measuring the effectiveness of integrated communication plans across print, digital, and social media intended to raise Boston University School of Laws visibility and promote its reputation to a variety of internal and external audiences. The Assistant Dean manages a department responsible for external public and media relations, editorial communications and marketing, and website content and front-end development. The Assistant Dean provides leadership across all aspects of the Schools marketing efforts to monitor and secure the Schools positioning in the marketplace and to support the Schools engagement with key constituent groups. Ensuring consistent use across the Law School, the Assistant Dean manages the schools messaging system and brand, employing the latest digital communications tools, including developing and implementing a comprehensive and integrated social media strategy, to enhance brand recognition and reputation. The Assistant Dean works with key administrative units and the University public relations team to identify and execute proactive and opportunistic communications. As requested by the Dean, the Assistant Dean drafts written communications, including speeches, remarks, and letters.


Bachelors degree required. Masters degree in communications and/or marketing preferred. Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience required, with some experience in higher education preferred. Must have demonstrated strategic planning skills and experience successfully managing large and complex projects with multiple stakeholders. Superior communications, writing, and interpersonal skills are required. Proven experience leading a team, including the ability to hire, manage, and motivate staff is required. Must have knowledge of current technology and application of digital and social media communications strategies.
