With the graduation of its first class in 1985, the College is one of the younger veterinary programs in the country. Despite its relative youth, it has gained international recognition on the strength of its teaching, research, engagement, and patient care efforts. Located on 180 acres near downtown Raleigh, the College of Veterinary Medicine encompasses 20 buildings on the main Centennial Biomedical Campus. The NC State Veterinary Hospital (VH), established in 1983, is one of the highest rated veterinary academic medical centers in the country, serving communities throughout North Carolina and the Southeast. The VH is an integrated health care center for companion, equine and farm animals. We exist to further the teaching mission of the NC State CVM and to provide state-of-the-art patient care. The hospital staffs over twenty clinical services with board certified specialists that are nationally and internationally renowned, ensuring the VH is on the cutting edge of veterinary medicine. Patients benefit from the combined expertise of multiple specialists utilizing a team approach to patient health care. Each year, nearly 35,000 patients are treated in the VH. The VH provides compassionate care, state of the art specialty health care, expert clinical instruction for 4th year veterinary students, interns and residents, and ongoing investigation of innovative techniques and procedures to further advance the field of veterinary medicine. With 162 faculty members, the College provides instruction and guidance to over 400 DVM students, 75 graduate students, and 100 interns and residents. Instruction is in three departments: Clinical Sciences, Molecular Biomedical Sciences, and Population Health & Pathobiology. In addition to the four-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree, the college is the home of the NCSU Comparative Biomedical Sciences graduate training program, an umbrella program that provides interdisciplinary training for doctoral students across the entire NCSU campus. Essential Job Duties: The NC State University, College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for the position of Hospital Administrator for the NC State Veterinary Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual to provide visionary leadership for a world-class veterinary hospital at one of the nation's leading colleges of veterinary medicine. The hospital staffs over twenty clinical services, some with 24/7 operations, with board certified specialists that are nationally and internationally renowned, ensuring the VH is on the cutting edge of veterinary medicine. This position provides operational oversight and leadership for the hospital personnel and finances and is responsible for maintaining an environment that produces high quality patient care, client service, teaching, and research. In collaboration with the Associate Dean and Director of Veterinary Medical Services, the successful candidate will ensure a high-performing and engaged culture within the hospital and college community through support and development of the hospital's veterinary technical and administrative employees toward the goal of quality patient care and excellent client service. These efforts will be complemented by assisting with faculty engagement in VH operations. Because of the complexity of the teaching hospital environment, management of the facility must be conducted in a manner that engages the CVM to actively participate in achieving our vision and goals through transparent and inclusive leadership. The Hospital Administrator must work collaboratively within a team environment and effectively develop and lead teams. The successful candidate will be responsive to faculty, staff, management, and client concerns and ensure effective and consistent communication and feedback channels among these various customer groups. The successful candidate will assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining practices and policies to ensure hospital operations remain efficient, financially viable, and positive for patients, clients and employees. Overall hospital safety and compliance with VH policy will also be key components of this position. The Administrator will be responsible for monthly financial statements and preparation of annual budget, operations plan and forecasting which will be reported to the Associate Dean and Hospital Board.
Minimum Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in Business or related field with 5-7+ years' experience in administrative and financial management in a veterinary hospital/large specialty practice or human hospital environment. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
