Essential Job Duties: The Postdoctoral Affairs Program Manager serves as the chief operating officer for Postdoctoral Affairs. Duties and Responsibilities: *Provides leadership, strategic vision, and management of short-and long- term operations and goals. *Oversees the development and administration of programs and services for postdoctoral scholars. *Services include orientation, onboarding programs, career advising, job search and interviewing resources, career development workshops, professional seminars, leadership in the responsible conduct of research (RCR) program at NC State and other offerings promoting the welfare and advancement of the postdoctoral population. Participation in our professional development programs: Teaching and Communication Certificate, Accelerate to Industry (A2i), Academic Packways and assist in development of new programs. *Serves as advisor to the local postdoc association; collaborate with postdoc association to plan and execute annual Postdoctoral Research Symposium and research talks during Postdoctoral Appreciation Week, provides guidance to the postdoc association on programming and administration. *Manages daily operations to ensure delivery of timely and effective services to postdocs; tracks employment trends and interacts with administrators, deans, department heads, faculty and external employers who hire postdocs. *Administers membership in the National Postdoc Association; maintains website content; creates partnerships with offices and resources on campus as well as institutions in Research Triangle Park. *Writes and submits grant proposals to obtain funds to enhance the postdoc experience at NC State University. *Administers postdoctoral scholar employment. This includes reviewing the creation and posting of postdoc positions, as well as approving all hire/rehire postdoc actions in the HR System. The Manager will also assist campus on classification, policy and procedure concerns related to postdocs. In addition, this position will update departmental personnel representatives on rules and regulations applicable to postdoc appointments.
Minimum Education/Experience: *Master's degree required (with a preference for degree(s) in Science, Engineering or related field)
Department Required Skills: *Experience with career advising and professional development program delivery required *Outstanding organizational skills and ability to balance multiple priorities *Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with diverse individuals on a variety of issues *Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong presentation skills *Strong initiative, excellent judgment and an ability to function independently *Ability to work effectively in teams; experience planning and working on shared projects collaboratively to achieve agreed upon outcomes *Ability to critically analyze information, synthesize key points, and report/apply findings clearly and concisely *Knowledge of career opportunities in academia, industry, nonprofit, government, and entrepreneurship
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: *PhD in Science, Engineering or related field preferred *Experience working with international population *Strong technical skills, including web authoring, Excel, Powerpoint, AdobePDF, Photoshop. Ability to learn new software skills quickly *Experience with online and/or distance education. Familiarity with Moodle or other LMS *Experience and/or demonstrated interest in issues related to graduate student and postdoc well-being *Experience with large scale event planning
