Position Summary: The College of Arts & Sciences of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks to recruit a senior scholar to serve as the Joel R. Williamson Distinguished Professor. This professorship is a prestigious University chair representing the institution's enduring engagement with the study of the American South. Candidates considered for this position should have a consequential record of achievement and a demonstrable commitment to teaching. Additionally, the holder of the Williamson Distinguished Professorship would be expected to provide intellectual and visionary leadership in the area of Southern Studies, collaborate with colleagues across relevant fields and units, and materially assist in the further integration of the campus's significant resources related to the American South. The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of full professor and will have a tenured appointment in one of the departments of the College of Arts & Sciences. The Williamson Distinguished Professorship provides generous annual support for the holder's research-related activities.

Education Requirements: A Ph.D. or other terminal degree in a field of study that would qualify the applicant for a tenured appointment in one of the departments of the College of Arts and Sciences.
