The Business Manager for Business Operations is the individual responsible for the day-to-day business operations including, budgets/finance and human resources functions for the Department of Housing and Residence Life. This position manages the budget, finances, and human resources responsibilities according to University and State policies, guidelines and procedures.
The Business Manager for Business Operations is responsible for ensuring that all departmental staff abides by all institutional policies and procedures relative to the areas of business and human resources. This position is responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of all policies and procedures of the University and the State in all day-to-day operations.
The Business Manager will oversee the overall management of the business office which includes all business operations, payroll, travel, accounts payable, purchasing, budget development and implementational operational policies, procedures, practices and standards that ensure optimal efficiencies of the business office, serving as the chief business and financial contact with the offices of Student Affairs and the Budget Office. This position will provide strategic long and short range planning related to the welfare of the department. The Business Manager must demonstrate expertise in planning and administering budgets effectively and efficiently with the policies and procedures of the University. This position will have signature authority on all departmental funds for operational budgets and R & R budgets totaling over 20 million. This duty requires the ability to establish priorities through program analysis and to assist in the creation and/or enhancement of all areas within the department. This position will oversee and manage all aspects pertaining to human resources and the department.
The Business Manager must demonstrate a knowledge of state human resources guidelines as they pertain to an individual employee and the department and will serve as the departments liaison with the University's Human Resources Office.
The Business Manager will oversee the work of the Business Officer, the Administrative Specialist for Finance and the Administrative Specialist for Human Resources, who are responsible for overseeing all of the day-to-day business operational matters of the department including accounting, bookkeeping and human resources procedures. This position through the Business Officer will provide administrative oversight to the Administrative Specialists who will have the primary responsibility for performing the daily accounting, purchasing, bookkeeping and human resources tasks of the department.
Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, or related business area and three years of professional accounting experience, of which at least one is supervisory; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
5-7 years' experience managing a college or university revenue generating department. A master's degree in business, accounting, or a related field. Demonstrated expertise in written and oral communication skills, organization, management and planning are essential.
