Job Description:


The Upward Bound Program assists low-income and first generation students in developing skills and motivation necessary to pursue and succeed in post-secondary education. The program serves students
attending East Technical, Glenville and John Marshall high schools. Designs, coordinates, and implements high-interest and relevant curriculum in French and Spanish for students in grades 9-12. Provide instruction through class lectures, small group instruction and homework assistance. Assist students with developing success strategies as it relates to foreign language (e.g. note taking, study skills, test taking, problem solving, and college & career preparation).

  • Teach high school Spanish and French languages.
  • Create daily lesson plans for instruction
  • Monitor and keep a daily log of student attendance, behavior, and academic development.
  • Assess teaching and learning outcomes and provide essential feedback to students and parents.
  • Set professional goals with supervisor and monitor progress monthly.
  • Provide a comprehensive written evaluation on each participant enrolled in class.
  • Develop hands on experiences and participate in field trips.
  • Assist in the development of curriculum, needs assessment, and pre and post testing.


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Previous teaching experience in high school or at a college level in appropriate discipline.
  • Ability to implement web-based or general technology applications into instruction
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working with low income and diverse populations
  • Sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of a diverse population

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree
  • Training in tutoring strategies and techniques for secondary populations
  • Previous experience teaching/tutoring with a Trio program
