Qualifications

Applications are invited for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Applied Mathematics, with an emphasis on data science, beginning August, 2019.

Candidates must have a doctoral degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in mathematics or a closely related field; a demonstrated research record in the field of Data Science, broadly defined, with a significant mathematical component; postdoctoral experience; potential to obtain external funding; a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring at the graduate and undergraduate levels; interested in developing courses in Data Science.

It is also desirable that candidates have experience in an application area that complements departmental strengths and the ability to develop collaborations both within and outside the university.

Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor.

Other Information

The Mathematics Department offers BS, MS, and PhD degrees in several broad areas of mathematics, including applied and computational mathematics, biomathematics, and financial mathematics. The department and university encourage and support interdisciplinary research, and there are opportunities for collaboration within the department, where research employing geometrical and topological data analysis, as well as machine learning with financial and biomedical imaging data, is currently being performed. There are also ample opportunities for collaboration with investigators in other departments, including topics such as neuroscience, biophysics, and genomics.
